Estefany's Story Forever Changed
When Estefany was just a few months old, her mom’s lifestyle placed her in enough danger that the Honduran authorities removed her from her mother’s care.
When her aunts and grandma found out, they started asking and searching for where she had been taken away to, someone told them she had been taken by the authorities and had been given up for adoption. Although this wasn’t true, since she had actually been placed in an orphanage, they stopped looking, believing they would never see her again.
Over the last two and a half years, Estefany lived in an orphanage, but everything changed when Estefany’s case file came across our team’s desk. The only information we had was her mother’s name, but through their investigation, we managed to locate the neighborhood where she was last registered to live. Our team then gathered available information and tried to track down her family.
Our team asked around local businesses and the community until finally someone recognized the family name, leading us to an aunt's house. When we spoke with Estefany’s aunt, she was shocked to learn that everything they believed was false—that Estefany had actually been in an orphanage just twenty minutes down the road from where they live. She immediately told us that, although she wasn’t in a position to take in Estefany, she was sure that their other brother and sister-in-law would be willing.
That’s when we met Emilia and Carlos, who were willing to bring her into their home. Despite their limited living space, they didn’t want their niece to grow up without a family. They shared their plans to bring her in and that she would be treated like their other children, receiving the same love and attention, and that they were committed to caring for her. They began evaluations and supervised visits, getting to know Estefany and earning her trust.
During this process, we learned that Emilia and Carlos had started building their permanent home years ago. They had been saving little by little, and over time, the walls of their future house were nearly complete, though they still faced significant costs for finishing it. Our team decided to support them in completing the construction, so their new family of six could have the space and conditions to thrive.
We’re happy to share that this past week, Estefany was reunited with her aunt, uncle, and cousins, and thanks to your support of Embraced, Emilia and her family's forever home is finished.
We loved partnering with Emilia and her family to support them in achieving long-term stability through a permanent home.
Our team is so confident that love will fill their new home for the years to come and that Estefany will have a foundation of love and support to grow up from.
Your support has made it possible to change these kids' stories, allowing kids to grow up with their empowered and loving families, and we could not be more grateful to have you as part of this impact.
