Veronica's Kids Are Finally Home

In 2020, when two hurricanes hit Honduras in the same month, Veronica and her kids were forced to live in a temporary shelter because their home was destroyed by flooding. One day while they were there, Veronica had the opportunity to work as day labor, and the kids stayed in the shelter. The shelter allowed parents to go and work, but they had to be back by five in the evening. Veronica got back late that night because the roads were blocked by flooding, and they wouldn’t let her back into the shelter when she arrived. That evening, the child protective office was called to pick up all the kids who were left without parental supervision. Even though Veronica was outside the shelter’s gate, when the authorities arrived, they wouldn’t allow her to be with her kids.

Her five children were taken to live in an orphanage, and Veronica paid for a taxi with the money she made that day to follow the car carrying them so she could know where they would be living. Even though Veronica has visited her kids at the orphanage weekly over the last five years, her case was never processed by the child protection office until her oldest son aged out of the orphanage at 18, and when he left, he moved in with Veronica. It was then that the case files of her other four kids were passed on to our team in the child protective office.

Because Veronica lost everything in the 2020 flooding, it has taken her a long time to financially recover, and she didn’t have the resources to provide the stability to get her kids back. But thanks to your support, we were able to help Veronica and her kids with a home, essential furniture, education scholarships, and a small business startup to create extra income for her family. Her kids were thrilled to finally go home and be with their mom, and we are so thankful to share that they are together again because of your support.
